My parents still don't know if they'll be able to come to the End of Year Show or not:( So may just be Paul. Still, at least he'll be there which is something :)

Meanwhile, have a Long Overdue Picspam. Our trip to the Great Central Railway back in March/early April.

Finally have the horrible brief. I'm trying to get started on it but my brain feels like mush. Will probably leave it until tomorrow now.

This weekend we went to the Bateman's brewery for research reasons but as we had to change in Skegness anyway we thought we'd go to Natureland and see the seals. This was kind of a nostalgia trip for Paul as he used to go as a kid. Usually I hate Skegness with a passion but it was well worth it this time!

Pictures of cute seals and stuff )

By then our hands were numb even though I had gloves on. It was not a good day to be in Skeg! Luckily we managed to get a couple of good pints which just never happens there!

The brewery tour was good but I can't find the pic I took of the brewery for some reason. I'd done the tour before but this time I was making loads of little notes in my baby seal notebook I bought. The girl doing the tour was someone I know from last year, she was a friend of a friend and came to the first Architecture Ball with me and the members of the Ladies and Gentlemen Society.

We went to another couple of pubs then stopped at Burgh-le-Marsh, which is obviously cool as it has a windmill

Pics from the summer as it was dark this time )

More Batemans was drunk and we had another pit stop in Horncastle, comeplete with another couple of pints. We checked out a different pub and just happened to run into an aquaintance from Lincoln who was there for a party or something. Then we finally went home and fell asleep on the bus and were woken at the bus station by a security dude who was really arsey about it. And went straight back to bed feeling too tired to even stop in the Ritz or anything.

I love Saturdays<3

A week in snapshots [Jan. 28th, 2009|09:48 am]

Thursday:

Exhibition went very well and people said some very nice things about my work:) Also my lecturer and one of the others got in a couple of crates of beer and some crisps and stuff as there was no food and drink at this one. Chatted with other people in my year and it turned out that I'm worrying unnesesarily about the Professional Studies brief, I was so busy freaking out I missed the part where what we actually have to do isn't as complex as what he was going on about. For some reason though I felt in a bad mood with Paul afterwards and was mean:(

Friday:

Slept in till 12.20 which I just never ever do but felt magially cleansed of being annoyed with Paul and everyone else-ness. Yay!

Saturday:

Didn't go out of town as we were going to a 30th birthday party in the evening for someone Paul works with. During the day we had some drinks in the Ritz and got talking to an 88 year old RAF veteran who came and sat with us to have this fish and chips as all the tables were full up. Then a friend of ours emerged and announced that the brewery they've been going to set up in the back of the Green Dragon was finally open. We went and had a pint and it was very nice.

Party was okay, there were no decent drinks in the pub where it was but the buffet was nice. Something I've noticed at any occasion where there's a buffet is it opens and sits there because everyone's waiting for everyone else to go up so they're not the first and then afterwards they keep glancing back at the table but can't decide whether to get some more or whether they'll look like a pig so you get a ton of food left over. It's weird. Then we ended up back at the Ritz.

Sunday:

Was walking past my site when I suddenly had the idea of designing a new brewery for the Green Dragon one which in my brief has magically expanded. Felt terribly exicted about the project again now I've had an idea and can start researching and designing. Paul had a haggis for lunch for Burns night, ew! Watched football. It was a draw again. I've watched enough Liverpool matches with Paul that I now start to get quite involved.

Monday:

Finished site analysis, early night. Had really weird dream involving haggises, breweries, maggotty things that were long and thin and kind of translucent which turned brown when my mum fried them in a frying pan to feed to the cats (???) and a trip over a lot of moorland to find this house where a lost Bronte novel called Red Bull was set. I think my brain must be fucked!

Tuesday:

Text in the morning from Paul saying the Barnsley trip has been posponed a couple of weeks. Was worried about whether my brief would be okay but it not only was, they loved it! So now I can get stuck in properly. Starting some research stuff today and going to Batemans at the weekend. Need to make a list of questions I can ask. Seems like Barnsley being posponed might work out quite well!

The architecture ball last night was awesome. But before I get onto the pics and stuff, the most bizzare thing ever happened!

Bare with me, this might seem kind of convoluted...

...Anyway, we were going manic on the dance floor because some song we like had come on and my camera flew out of Paul's pocket (he'd been looking after it because I only had a pretty but inpractical clutch bag) and hit the floor. It didn't look broken but the batteries and memory card flew out.

So I put them back in. But because I only have one card and use the cable, I never really get it out so I couldn't remember exactly how it went (plus the cider of course) so I didn't shove it all the way in. I turned the camera on to check that it still worked and the first thing I saw was that the card was full. Oh shit! I thought. The card shouldn't have been full so it must be broken. I clicked onto the view button to see what it claimed was on there - and nearly fainted!

It was a pic of the restaurant in Brno train station!!! The pictures on the card were the ones from this trip which I thought had been wiped off by the internet cafe guy!

I was boggling and boggling, and I took the card out, put it in properly and there were my ball pictures back. So at the end of the night when we got home I downloaded them, took the card out again, put it not quite all the way in and downloaded my Czech Republic pics! I just ... I'm really stupidly excied by this but OMG what are the chances? I still don't really understand what the hell happened. Weird weird weird!

So was well as the pictures from last night, there's a long-overdue two and a half year old Czech Republic spam on the horizon! Wooooohoooo!

Btw why do I look nice in the solo pics but in the ones with me and Paul we look weird? )

Gah so much to talk about and so little time! And so many pictures to post. Trip to London last week was great and [info]lasergirl is just as awesome in person! We went to this Blitz museum which was kind of hilarious in a cheesy way (heee that sounds bad) Only bad thing about the whole day was Saint Pancras was all covered in scaffolding. Booo:(

Saturday was Nottingham Beer Festival, highlights of which included being allowed to go on the caves below the Salutation. Monday Paul and I and two friends won the Wetherspoons quiz for the second week running. Tuesday we had a free meal with the voucher we won in last weeks. Wednesday I had a crit that went really well and my ideas and photoshop were admired. Thursday I found out I was underpaid last month and should have some more money through this month.

Today, on the other had, I have been fucking everything up. First I got to my dissertation lecture three hours late because I misread the time on the timetable, and it's the second one in a row I've missed. Then I got an email from the library telling me off for having books that were due back a week ago, despite having reneiwed them online then. I'm panicking about the fine and whether I can get out of it if I explain.

I'm off with Paul to Methringham where he comes from to stay overnight with his parents and go to the fair. Wish me luck. I really will have to try hard not to swear as his mum told him off for saying Bugger when we saw them in the market the other week.

Saturday: Sheffield Beer Festival. It was Very Strange. Missed train and ended up in Leicester (will explain when I post pics) Was feeling a bit tense due to hanging with a male friend who fancied me at one time and my boyfriend tagging along. They got on well but I ended up bursting into tears at the station. Then we sat there waiting for our train getting wet and cold and passing round a bottle of barley wine like a load of alkys. Was a good weekend though.

However, highlight of the weekend was talking to [info]lasergirl on the phone! Off to London to meet her on Friday, whooohoooo!

Yesterday Paul and I hung out in 'Spoons with some friends and ended up doing the quiz. We won, and got 2 pints of ale each and a meal, which we're having next Tuesday. Which was of course awesome! Still feeling a bit high due to all the excitement of the last few days and have a crit today. I'm pretty pleased with the work I've done (for which I got to get close up to an abandoned warehouse which you normally can't, by asking permission) So hopefully my lecturer will like it too, fingers crossed.

I got a slip through the door saying I had a parcel and I assumed it was from my parents. I went down - and it was from the accomodation office! (where I've been working) A cake, lovely flowers, and something I can't open till tomorrow:) I'm just AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!! Last thing I expected:)

Anyway here's a long overdue spam of me and Paul's most recent mad weekend. We went to Sleaford, Heckington (home of the only surviving 8-sailed windmill!) and Boston (ye olde Boston obviously not the one the Dropkicks are from;) ) on the Saturday and had an awesome time! Sunday to follow.

And then we ran out of time and headed back home. But Sunday brought on it's own set of adventures:)

Saturday I went to meet my friend Dan in Peterborough for the beer festival. It was excellent and I drank Barley Wine. Fwiw that's beer that's like 10% but you sip it. Very nice though! I was a bit pissed so I went back to his and stayed in the spare room again. Next day there was the Rutland Beer Festival in Oakham, just down the road. Pictures to come, but will probably now be mixed with the ones from the last manic Peterborogh/Stamford trip.

Finally got back on Monday. Did I have a quiet bank holiday to get ready for work again the next day? No I did not! I went round Peterborough again, then met up with Paul in Lincoln and we went up the hill. By today the madness had all caught up with me and I was ready to collapse at work, which was a day of re-cleaning things other people were supposed to have already cleaned. Am now about to get into bed, read comics and eat crisps. Yay!

Saturday's adventure will be a tour of the Batemans Brewery in Wainfleet. Which just happens to be in an old windmill. Jackpot!

[music |Paddy Public Enemy no1 - Shane Macgowan & Popes]

So what have I been upto? Last week I was at work every day, then at the weekend I went to Southwell to meet my friend and look at the workhouse. We had a pub crawl, I missed the bus back and ended up going back to stay at his in Stamford (in his parents spare room) Then the next day we did pub crawls around Stamford and Peterborough and I finally ended up back in Lincoln at 10.30 at night. Then it was another week of work and I seem to have been out every night! Not even trying to, just keep ending up meeting people I know in the pub and chatting.

At one point I thought I was going to lose the internet and I haven't yet *touch wood* Later I thought I wasn't going to get my Green Lantern comic but fortunately I did! It was not quite as mindbendlingly awesome as the last two but still pretty damn awesome! Ivan Reis is my fave artist because he's so good at drawing hott men. I actually find his Sinestro disgustingly sexy(I fully intend to post some examples tomorrow or something). I'm a perve. Sinestro was also very slashy with Abin Sur, which made me wibble all over the place.

So I'm really really tired now and I'm going to get into bed and read a Victoria Holt and drink a mug of milk and eat a packet of crisps. Yay.

Apparently I got a bonus (don;t know what that involves) the first week of work and I think I may have got one this week as well. Only another 23 days until I actually get paid ...

I have the architecture spam from hell to share with you tomorrow, from Stamford and Peterborough, and maybe a bit of Southwell too.

1. I've passed the year

2. My rent is paid up until next (academic) year. So no living in tents in the forseeable future yay!

On Saturday I met my friend in Derby to go to the beer festival. We didn't actually make it though - we visited a couple of pubs first, that turned into another couple of pubs and before we knew it there wasn't time! But that was better really as I got to see a bit of the town and take some pics and also geek out about cool pub architecture (I was going to do that for my disseration but I've now picked another idea, but still, I took a lot of pictures of pubs while I was there)

Lots of pics behind cut!

I don't remember a lot about last night except drunkenly singing Green Fields of France.

*Headdesk x evelentysquillion*

Fwiw, this was the Christmas party. I still don't know why it was on.

ETA: There's a spoof version about drunk twats singing it and how annoying it is. Part of it goes:

Oh Wille MacBride why the hell did you die
The trouble you'd have saved if you'd come back alive
If you'd got a good job or joined the dole queue
We'd not have to listen to songs about you

But och I don't know now I'm glad that you're dead
With the green fields of France piled over your head
For the trouble you've caused since the day that you died
Shootings too good for you Willie MacBride

No rest for the wicked [Apr. 17th, 2007|02:46 am]

Oh dear lord. Oh. Dear. Lord! It was one of *those* nights, and a half.

To start with, earlier today I found out the whole portfolio for the entire year - including current project - has to be in in two weeks time. I don't actually have a portfolio as such, I mean I have the work but it isn't presented, so I freaked. Then in the evening I went up Steep Hill with a friend, for a quick half in a pub I particularly like. While we were on the way back we were summoned to the Library Bar by friends. So far so good.

It was a fun night and I managed not to drink too much and have some soft drinks too, which was nesesary considering the heaviest two weeks ever start tomorrow. Then some random guys had to rain on our parade by hanging around and being incredible pests. There's nothing wrong with people chatting you up, but this guy asked for my number before he'd said another word to me, which is not something that endears me to someone, then was awfully surprised when I said no. He kept moving around to sit next to me wherever I was sitting and did the same thing to everyone else in the group, sitting too close to them and touching and poking them and not getting the hint that we wanted both of them to fuck off (the other one was being really gross as well, just less so) Then when the pub closed they followed us back to Ella's flat. Half way there she suggested we run to shake them off and Jo fell over. We got to the flat and James tried to distract them but they still saw which one we were in and kept ringing the buzzer so we rang security, who saw them off. Then it turned out Jo had broken or sprained her ankle, so we went to the hospital in a taxi and spent about an hour and a half in A&E, pacing around (those of us without sprained ankles) and nibbling bad for you stuff out of the vending machine. It turned out to be a sprain and they just gave her some advice and sent her home. It's been a loooooong night!

[music |Death Valley Queen - Flogging Molly]

Actually, the weekend's been pretty awesome so far! I really didn't want to come back to uni because last term wiped me out and it just felt like the holiday didn't last long enough. But I'm glad I'm back now. The journey up was pretty nice and the train didn't even get stuck in Birmingham for once (God, I hate that place!) I got to Lincoln in good time and ended up going to the Library Bar for someone's birthday. We all hung out in there until they threw us out (nobody else was there so they closed rather early) then went back to the student village and sat on the roof and played I Have Never, while finishing off a bottle of vodka and one of those dodgy fruit liquers people always bring back from abroad. I got very drunk and ended up completely overwrought, as usual. It had been a long day!

Yesterday I went round town for a while and... OMG... You'll never believe what I found in a charity shop!

Thigh boots!!!

Seriously! Black PVC, lacing up the back, looked more or less new. Just sitting in the window of a charity shop! 15 quid! I just.... I've wanted a pair of those forever! Wow! I will post a picture later.

Then in the evening I met up with Jo and her friend and went round to hang out with some other friends of her. Much hilarity ensued! And I got to look at some old X-Men TPBs, sadly none of which had Pyro or Freedom Force in but still!

Today I got my supermarket shopping done and I have to do my model soon so I can spring it on Carlos tomorrow. Only I'm finding it hard to concentrate. It's too nice outside! It's a day to be sitting on the waterfront with an icecream, not in a fourth floor flat glueing matchsticks together! Maybe I'll do it this evening. I also have to admit that as soon as I think about work I feel crushed under the weight of it! I have my portfolio to do. I'm dreading it.

I'm back. And I have the net again.

Dropkicks - what can I say? They were made of awesome!!!! I ended up on stage at the end of the night when they did Spicy MacHaggis and Kiss me I'm Shitfaced. I don;t have a crush on any of them but they wrote my fave songs ever, it was all I could do not to molest one of them in some way!

They did The Outcast!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the one that I think of as Stas's song! It's my fave ever, but nobody else seems to like it much and it's not one of their better known ones so I really didn't expect them to play it. And The Dirty Glass!!! About the only one they didn't do that I would have liked was Upstarts and Broken Hearts. That was the only problem with the whole thing, they just weren't on long enough!

Wah. One of the best nights of my life!

The whole couple of days was pretty cool actually. I made my way over to Nottingham after my CAD class finished at luchtime. I was staying in a funny little Victorian hotel outside the city centre. Single rooms without a bathroom were about £27, but when I arrived it turned out they'd run out so I got upgraded to one with a bathroom but paid the same:) There's something about hotels I just love, same as I love train stations and airports:)

Then I went back into Nottingham with the idea of going over to the Arena at 6 when they started letting people in. On the way there I found a huge comic shop! And they had almost all the Green Lantern TPBs including New Journey, Old Path, the one where Alex Nero first appears. So of course I bought it! Then went and sat and read it in Wetherspoons. (I know they lack the atmosphere of traditional pubs, but you can buy a large bottle of nice beer, Kozel or something, for £1.79 whereas other pubs charge you about £2.50 for a tiny Budvar or Becks) It was wonderful! About as wonderful as a non-Hal GL book can be! Nero is totally my guilt pleasure villain crush, lame as he's considered by most people who've read the comics.

The Dropkicks were on 3rd and once they'd finished I gave Less than Jake a miss. I was going to try them out but I went out after the Dropkicks for a drink and to ring my brother and tell him about getting on stage, and then I didn't feel like going back in again. I was too hyped up for that, if they'd been on before the Dropkicks I probably would've enjoyed them. I went back to the hotel and had a last drink in the bar and went upstairs to die of squeeeeeee. And didn't get a lot of sleep that night;)

The next morning I left at 7.15 and arrived back in Lincoln in time for my classes at 10. Go me!

When I was on my way back from Morrisons today, some cuntfaced twat nearly ran me over. I was crossing at the traffic lights when this car came towards me way too fast, screeched to a halt virtually next to me, then had the nerve to hoot at me agressively as though the light hadn't been GREEN. Either there was a glitch and they were green at his end too, or he was just another oveprivileged twat who thinks that being behind a steering wheel gives them the right to hassle those of us who actually use our legs for what they were meant for. I hope karma bites him in the ass.

It just really pulled my chain. Cross at a red light and you'd expect it, but wait till it's green and some wanker nearly kills you anyway. It's like when a guy who worked in the Co-Op in South Brent - who to be fair obviously had learning difficulties- tried to refuse to sell me alcohol because when I showed him my ID he couldn't work out how old someone born in 1984 would be in 2006 and told me I was 17. Look, I have ID and it's a bloody passport, what more do you want!

Well, I suppose that was funny in a way:)

Talking of alcohol, wow was I drunk last night! I did karaoke. Fernando by Abba. I hope nobody was videoing it on their phone!
