| Been a long two weeks |
[Aug. 2nd, 2008|08:19 pm] |
So what have I been upto? Last week I was at work every day, then at the weekend I went to Southwell to meet my friend and look at the workhouse. We had a pub crawl, I missed the bus back and ended up going back to stay at his in Stamford (in his parents spare room) Then the next day we did pub crawls around Stamford and Peterborough and I finally ended up back in Lincoln at 10.30 at night. Then it was another week of work and I seem to have been out every night! Not even trying to, just keep ending up meeting people I know in the pub and chatting.
At one point I thought I was going to lose the internet and I haven't yet *touch wood* Later I thought I wasn't going to get my Green Lantern comic but fortunately I did! It was not quite as mindbendlingly awesome as the last two but still pretty damn awesome! Ivan Reis is my fave artist because he's so good at drawing hott men. I actually find his Sinestro disgustingly sexy(I fully intend to post some examples tomorrow or something). I'm a perve. Sinestro was also very slashy with Abin Sur, which made me wibble all over the place.
So I'm really really tired now and I'm going to get into bed and read a Victoria Holt and drink a mug of milk and eat a packet of crisps. Yay.
Apparently I got a bonus (don;t know what that involves) the first week of work and I think I may have got one this week as well. Only another 23 days until I actually get paid ...
I have the architecture spam from hell to share with you tomorrow, from Stamford and Peterborough, and maybe a bit of Southwell too. |

I know the whole posting funny silver age comic covers thing is all old hat now, but look a gallery of Green Lantern ones!
I like this one
( Sinestro, you dirty bastard! )
Which brings me onto a little pet peeve. Why is it that whenever a supervillain's sex life gets brought up everyone insists they're asexual and not interested? While I think it's great people are seeing that as an option it only seems to come up when the character discussed is a villainous one. I wonder if some people just don't like the idea of baddies having sex lives. I mean when Countdown 40 came out I saw people being all like WTF over Darkseid having a concubine. But the guy has three sons (anyone who thinks Grayven doesn't count knows where to stick it) We know he's had sex! It's not that I want to know what Sinestro gets upto in bed, it's the principle of thing. I guess you could say that sex belongs to chaos and not order which is why those Order!Order!Order supervillains wouldn't like it. Hmmmm... |

I finally got to sleep - and had a semi-porny dream about Alex Nero. Then I woke up. I was most pissed off. |

*pokes photobucket* WORK DAMN YOU! I wanted to post my Sheffield stuff.
Anyway, I appear to have just written Alex Nero / Karu-Sil porn. I feel horribly dirty. But it's taking my mind off the big crit next week and having to okay my awesome 3D Max work to Barbara tomorrow (seriously, if she doesn't want me to include it my heart will break into teeny tiny pieces) |

Green Lantern is out tomorrow/today. The preview was a bit irritating. Scarecrow got a Sin Corps ring but Hal got down to Arkham and got it off him. It'm just kind of sick of Batman and his villains appearing when there are *ahem* perfectly good Green Lantern villiains who could be used.
I was reading the forums at uni while I was waiting for Barbara to arrive. During the Sinestro Corps war the Guardians changed the rules so that the GL rings could kill as they were getting their asses kicked. That made sense, I mean, it was a war! However noble and wonderful a war might seem to be they pretty much don't happen without people being killed, even in comic books. But now as a result of the new law Oa has a Death Row. That I'm decidedly uncomfortable with. Sinestro is on it. I don't think they actually will kill any of them as they're going to be used in the Blackest Night event in 2009, but it's still a horrid thought. Anyway, someone online thought that Nero is definitly on Death Row. And I was like ...
...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...Right in the middle of the second year studio. Heh.
See, I thought Nero was going to be a hero now. In the Ion special, Sodam Yat (don't laugh that's the guy's name. He's a Daxamite) fought with Nero, who was still using the Ion power, and basically turned his yellow energy green and blasted him so he passed out. And Kyle said something about how he had taken all the anger and hate and fear in him and changed it. Which gave me the beautiful vision of Nero working for the GLs and sharing the Ion power with Yat, seeing as he seems to be tapped into it permentantly anyway. Just wishful thinking I guess, but cool.
A suppose at least if tomorrow's GL shows Nero on Death Row, he'll be appearing in the comic. |

One of my fave Green Lantern villains was killed in a comic this week. Not only that but killed in a comic where the artist made him look fucking ugly. He may have been many things but he was not ugly.
Killed with some sort of power ray in the chest. I felt as though one had hit me when I read it. I could have cried, right there in Wetherspoons.
And as if that was not bad enough, the comic ended with Batman being a hateful self-rightous obnoxious twat. Whatever did I do to deserve such a rare treat, eh?
So although I said I never would, here comes a fannish entitlement-y FUCK YOU DC!!!!! |

I got the Sin Corps special. And year, it was awesome. But I'm deeply dissapointed by the lack of Nero. I can only assume he turns up later, causing trouble for both sides as he's just too uncontrollable and insane to fit into a corps of any sort. Other than that, it was very good indeed, though it took me some time to get over my dissapointment.
And today's Doctor Who, OMG! (spoilers behind cut)

My sister now has X3 on DVD. Yay! I watched it last night, and went all wibbly and hyperventilate-y when Pyro was on. I'm such a loser!
For some reason I don't fancy Logan as much in that one as I did in the other two movies, I don't know why.
I'm totally wetting myself about the Sinestro Corps special this week! Though if Alex Nero, my Guilty Pleasure Villain Crush, doesn't appear in the storyline I will cry! I'm majorly crushing on comic-book villains at the moment, including most of Kyle Rayner's rogues gallery.
( Stuff on the spoilers for said special, and some mild ranting ) |

| Blah-blah update |
[Mar. 5th, 2007|08:56 pm] |
I have tons of pictures to post, from Nottingham, Newark and Lincoln. I need to break them up a bit though so I don't spam everyone to death:)
Today's classes went well, except that technology managed to be very boring. I seem to be on top of all the site analysis homework at least. Carlos said some very nice things about my photos, which was awesome! I actually used a lot I already had sitting around in my folders. Good thing I never leave the house without my camera. We have to do more site analysis before Thursday, also some general stuff on waterfront architecture. I'm loving this project!
I'm really trying to be healthier and not drink so much. Having a drink or two sometimes is nice but I do tend to go over the top with it so I'm cutting down. I had nothing over the weekend, a glass of wine today (becase I'm far less likely to want another one than if I have a beer) and then I'm not having anything until Thursday when my comics come out.
Talking of comics, ( some thoughts on a few I've been reading, contains ranting )
I'm alternately really cranky and really miserable at the moment. Hopefully it's PMT and not cursed chair-induced immaculate conception pregnancy hormones ;) |

Really for Joanne who can't open attatchments - hope your mouse problems get sorted out soon! One gigantic not-scan of Alexander Nero being tortured interrogated by the Guardians of the Universe in Ion 8. So basically little blue bastards weren't just stupid enough to imprison Parallax and Sinestro in the power battery together, they torture prisoners as well. Nice!

I'm back. And I have the net again.
Dropkicks - what can I say? They were made of awesome!!!! I ended up on stage at the end of the night when they did Spicy MacHaggis and Kiss me I'm Shitfaced. I don;t have a crush on any of them but they wrote my fave songs ever, it was all I could do not to molest one of them in some way!
They did The Outcast!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the one that I think of as Stas's song! It's my fave ever, but nobody else seems to like it much and it's not one of their better known ones so I really didn't expect them to play it. And The Dirty Glass!!! About the only one they didn't do that I would have liked was Upstarts and Broken Hearts. That was the only problem with the whole thing, they just weren't on long enough!
Wah. One of the best nights of my life!
The whole couple of days was pretty cool actually. I made my way over to Nottingham after my CAD class finished at luchtime. I was staying in a funny little Victorian hotel outside the city centre. Single rooms without a bathroom were about £27, but when I arrived it turned out they'd run out so I got upgraded to one with a bathroom but paid the same:) There's something about hotels I just love, same as I love train stations and airports:)
Then I went back into Nottingham with the idea of going over to the Arena at 6 when they started letting people in. On the way there I found a huge comic shop! And they had almost all the Green Lantern TPBs including New Journey, Old Path, the one where Alex Nero first appears. So of course I bought it! Then went and sat and read it in Wetherspoons. (I know they lack the atmosphere of traditional pubs, but you can buy a large bottle of nice beer, Kozel or something, for £1.79 whereas other pubs charge you about £2.50 for a tiny Budvar or Becks) It was wonderful! About as wonderful as a non-Hal GL book can be! Nero is totally my guilt pleasure villain crush, lame as he's considered by most people who've read the comics.
The Dropkicks were on 3rd and once they'd finished I gave Less than Jake a miss. I was going to try them out but I went out after the Dropkicks for a drink and to ring my brother and tell him about getting on stage, and then I didn't feel like going back in again. I was too hyped up for that, if they'd been on before the Dropkicks I probably would've enjoyed them. I went back to the hotel and had a last drink in the bar and went upstairs to die of squeeeeeee. And didn't get a lot of sleep that night;)
The next morning I left at 7.15 and arrived back in Lincoln in time for my classes at 10. Go me! |
