| Weekend train spam |
[Dec. 8th, 2009|07:33 pm] |
Christmas Market Weekend is over and I have pics of Bittern and Sir Nigel Gresley.
This would have been a plane spam too as we were planning to go and check out the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, but the whole thing somehow went tits up so we're going this weekend instead. I will have to get in the mood by wearing my Birthday dress or something else apropriately 1940s looking.

| Out of date train picspam |
[Dec. 1st, 2009|07:15 pm] |
To celebrate the fact that Bittern and Sir Nigel Gresleyare coming up to Lincoln this week, I throught I'd do a two-part picspam of some train-related stuff which I never got round to posting before. This was back in May, a couple of days after my final crit. We went to a beer festival at Barrow Hill, a railway roundhouse outisde Chesterfield.

| A day out alone and a junk shop |
[Nov. 11th, 2009|08:27 pm] |
A couple of weeks ago Paul was roped into working on Saturday due to some kind of annual stock take. As I had the day to myself I decided to go to Spalding as I haven't been yet and Paul never fancied it. And I had a good day taking pictures and discovered a junk shop which sold me two books, some vintage plates and some vintage jewellery for the princely sum of £3!

I'm not settling in too badly though there still seems to be so much to sort out. Getting a bookcase seems like a good start:)
We're off to Boston tomorrow for a Steam, Vintage Machinery and Real Ale Fest. Yay! We're meeting Dan. Paul was being weird tonight, I think because we're still thrown out by having both moved. Also work was kind of crappy because there was sick under a bed. WTF? |

Because I really want to get back into LJ, have some pictures of Cleethorpes including SPITFIRE! (don't get too excited though, most of them are crap and you have to wade through a load of trains first :) )

First, have some pictures from the Awesomeness that was Friday!

I also got a £30 Amazon gift voucher. I've bought the two sequals to a book I absolutely love, and as I don't have to spend it all at once I'm saving the rest to indulge future obsessions with:)
Future plans:
*Continue job hunt
*Newark on Saturday for a Real Ale and German Wine festival - it's to celibrate the 25th aniversary of twinning the town with one in a German winemaking area
*Apart from that, who knows! |

My parents still don't know if they'll be able to come to the End of Year Show or not:( So may just be Paul. Still, at least he'll be there which is something :)
Meanwhile, have a Long Overdue Picspam. Our trip to the Great Central Railway back in March/early April.

Tomorrow we're doing what we've started to refer to as the Boston Marathon - ie seeing if we can get a drink in every single Batemans pub in Boston. There are a lot of them!
(Incidentally my dad did the real Boston Marathon, which is some kind of rowing race, years and years ago. I think ours sounds more fun!)
Boston's kind of a fun place as well if you like that sort of thing. Take a look at some of my pics from last time, when we went to look at the windmill and then went down towards the docks.

| World full of hate? |
[Feb. 18th, 2009|07:11 pm] |
I did my first set of plans last week and need to refine the design. I thought this morning I might go for something vaguely steampunk-ish. I prefer the 20s/30s high tech-y stuff but it is a Victorian building. Then I was inspired by a pic of millions of beer barrels wating to be shipped out of Burton-on-Trent in the 30s and was wondering if I could use that in some way without it ending up looking like a kitchy pirate theme part or whatever. There's some pics of the existing building (warning arty farty-ised on photoshop for some thing a few weeks ago) behind the cut

I also had to ring mum for advice because I feel so bard about the fact that I get into rows with Paul about petty things and then say super-violent stuff (not about him, about other people) which when I think of it later makes me want to curl up and die. It usually happens on Friday nights, because it's my busiest day and I seem to build up a load of steam. It used to happen on Mondays but I'm fine now as we don't do the quiz anymore. He said that my "...personality changes and you turn into someone nobody likes very much" which is true. Now I've just got to deal with Fridays. The arguments always just blow over the next day but one day they wont and anyway it makes me feel horrible. I gave mum an example of something I said and why what he said round me up (Not going into details because it's too petty and silly) and she told me not uncertainly what an idiot I was being. I feel so much better having got it off my chest.I've felt all drained and tearful all day like you do when you let go of a load of rage and realise you're a horrible person. I think it's just stress behind it at the end of the day and it'll wear off but still. I realise it's a good job I had my first real relationship at 23 (those other people I referred to as my boyfriend only lasted like 2 weeks) because I doubt I was mature enough before. I remember being pretty mean to Kevin who didn't really deserve it even if he was a pompous baby!fascist.
On a totally unrelated note, why are the times when you accidentally press "Remember me on this computer" or somesuch option also the times when you just happen to have typed your username wrong? Is it to do with alcohol? |

It's obcene that I feel so awake at this time in the morning!
I have the first crit this morning for the brewery design. Wish me luck!
We spent Valentines Day in Grimsby. It was very urban decay-y. How much more romantic does it get!
Have some pics from York 2 weeks ago.

Finally have the horrible brief. I'm trying to get started on it but my brain feels like mush. Will probably leave it until tomorrow now.
This weekend we went to the Bateman's brewery for research reasons but as we had to change in Skegness anyway we thought we'd go to Natureland and see the seals. This was kind of a nostalgia trip for Paul as he used to go as a kid. Usually I hate Skegness with a passion but it was well worth it this time!
( Pictures of cute seals and stuff )
By then our hands were numb even though I had gloves on. It was not a good day to be in Skeg! Luckily we managed to get a couple of good pints which just never happens there!
The brewery tour was good but I can't find the pic I took of the brewery for some reason. I'd done the tour before but this time I was making loads of little notes in my baby seal notebook I bought. The girl doing the tour was someone I know from last year, she was a friend of a friend and came to the first Architecture Ball with me and the members of the Ladies and Gentlemen Society.
We went to another couple of pubs then stopped at Burgh-le-Marsh, which is obviously cool as it has a windmill
( Pics from the summer as it was dark this time )
More Batemans was drunk and we had another pit stop in Horncastle, comeplete with another couple of pints. We checked out a different pub and just happened to run into an aquaintance from Lincoln who was there for a party or something. Then we finally went home and fell asleep on the bus and were woken at the bus station by a security dude who was really arsey about it. And went straight back to bed feeling too tired to even stop in the Ritz or anything.
I love Saturdays<3 |

In Newark before Christmas Paul and I walked miles the wrong way down a really long street. Which was a bit annoying, but we did find a cemetary with a load of Polish war graves, mostly from the RAF

[Dec. 19th, 2008|03:51 pm] |
Finally in the mood to post some of the pics that have been sitting around on the comp for months and photosuckit decides to crap out. However it changes it's mind after I've nagged it refreshed it enough.
So without further ado, here is what happened when I met lasergirl back in October. Aka two sky_legion -ers have a mad dash round London, aka what happens when an architecture nerd more used to seeking out weird shit in Newark or Grimsby is let loose on the capital.

| Blast from the past |
[Dec. 3rd, 2008|08:26 pm] |
The architecture ball last night was awesome. But before I get onto the pics and stuff, the most bizzare thing ever happened!
Bare with me, this might seem kind of convoluted...
...Anyway, we were going manic on the dance floor because some song we like had come on and my camera flew out of Paul's pocket (he'd been looking after it because I only had a pretty but inpractical clutch bag) and hit the floor. It didn't look broken but the batteries and memory card flew out.
So I put them back in. But because I only have one card and use the cable, I never really get it out so I couldn't remember exactly how it went (plus the cider of course) so I didn't shove it all the way in. I turned the camera on to check that it still worked and the first thing I saw was that the card was full. Oh shit! I thought. The card shouldn't have been full so it must be broken. I clicked onto the view button to see what it claimed was on there - and nearly fainted!
It was a pic of the restaurant in Brno train station!!! The pictures on the card were the ones from this trip which I thought had been wiped off by the internet cafe guy!
I was boggling and boggling, and I took the card out, put it in properly and there were my ball pictures back. So at the end of the night when we got home I downloaded them, took the card out again, put it not quite all the way in and downloaded my Czech Republic pics! I just ... I'm really stupidly excied by this but OMG what are the chances? I still don't really understand what the hell happened. Weird weird weird!
So was well as the pictures from last night, there's a long-overdue two and a half year old Czech Republic spam on the horizon! Wooooohoooo!
( Btw why do I look nice in the solo pics but in the ones with me and Paul we look weird? ) |

Btw everyone dig my pretty dress. It was in a film! Just a local one someone made in the Exeter area. I bought it from the vintage shop after it was returned. |

I got a slip through the door saying I had a parcel and I assumed it was from my parents. I went down - and it was from the accomodation office! (where I've been working) A cake, lovely flowers, and something I can't open till tomorrow:) I'm just AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!! Last thing I expected:)
Anyway here's a long overdue spam of me and Paul's most recent mad weekend. We went to Sleaford, Heckington (home of the only surviving 8-sailed windmill!) and Boston (ye olde Boston obviously not the one the Dropkicks are from;) ) on the Saturday and had an awesome time! Sunday to follow.

And then we ran out of time and headed back home. But Sunday brought on it's own set of adventures:) |

Rules: Take a picture of yourself right now. Don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair...just take a picture. Post that picture with NO editing. Post these instructions with your picture.

I'm dying my hair ready for my birthday outing tomorrow. I discovered long ago that the best way to do it is simply to smother myself with dye and remove the excess afterwards.
8 years ago I was a dishwater blonde... |
